What educators are saying

My students loved working on this project during enrichment!! It was open-ended and provided enough structure that I could facilitate without being too hands-on. Thanks a lot!
A great way to review the Marketing Mix at the beginning of the year for my advanced marketing classes.

Description

★ ★ Sneaker Design & Marketing Unit ★ ★

Students work together to research sneaker design, design a sneaker, as well as create a marketing and economic plan for developing their product.About this Product:

★Check it out!: This unit is included in the Gifted and Talented Middle Grades Unit Bundle at a discounted price!

After brainstorming ideas, students will complete a research webquest to investigate websites about sneaker design topics. Students may use QR codes or find their own sites to research. Students will then complete a compare and contrast activity to compare and contrast two types of athletic shoes of their choice. The unit also contains a research and debate topic and worksheet as well as a two page worksheet for a recommended field trip (also can be done as skype or phone interview).

After the research segment of the project is complete, there are ten pages of guided worksheets for students to follow to design and market their own shoe. Activities include deciding pricing, colors, logos, and materials. Worksheets also guide students to determine production costs, opportunity costs, and develop a plan for presenting their ideas to "sharks" to gain financial investors. The students will finalize the project with a presentation to the class with the intent of informing about their product and gaining investors.

Use in the Classroom:
I developed this unit for my grades 3-5 gifted and talented students to design a sneaker. It was their favorite unit of the year. Students worked in small groups for the majority of the unit and since we only worked on the project 1-2 days a week, the project lasted approximately 2 months. If I had the opportunity to work on this daily with my class, it would have been approximately a 2-3 week unit. As a middle school teacher, I would also use this unit in my grade 6 classroom.

This is a cross-curricular unit with application to science (principles of design based around the science of the foot and running), math (marketing and finances portion of the shoes development), and language arts application (informal presentation, debate, and a formal presentation).
