    Description

    Ghost Boys Novel Bundle:

This package includes all of the materials I used to teach the novel Ghost Boys by Jewell Parker Rhodes, and more! This novel is suited for mid-level readers. However, I used these materials and the novel with level 1 & 2 EL students in high school, and it was appropriate (and they BEGGED me every day to read a little more!).

    This package includes:

    • 7 Quizzes for sections of the novel. The quizzes focus on character, events, and vocabulary. Quizzes are for every 4 chapters. (I read one chapter with my students Monday – Thursday, then took the quiz Friday)
    • 30 discussion or essay questions. Each question correlates with a chapter in the novel. I had my students discuss each question verbally, then write a paragraph to answer on their own. These questions are adaptable for diverse teaching styles. Questions encourage students to participate in text-to-text, text-to-self, and text-to-world reflection on the novel.
    • 5 e-book biographies of men who died in police custody and whose death affected the Black Lives Matter movement. These biographies come with student notes for reading nonfiction, one pagers for creating memorials of the men who died, and discussion questions. Use these materials as a non-fiction mini-unit to build background before reading the novel.
    • Interactive Notebook - This is a reading guide and reference for students to use and interact with while reading. The notebook has many sections including key vocabulary, nonfiction background, novel organization, setting, characters, plot summary, and information about the author.
    • Final project description and rubric. The final project also engages text-to-self, and text-to-world thinking. Students choose from a variety of tangible projects to demonstrate their cumulative knowledge.
    • Word Wall
    • Key vocabulary with simple definitions and Quizlet and Kahoot links for reviewing key terminology
    • Which One Doesn't Belong? Critical Thinking and Justification Set of discussion slides
    • Chapter Title Rewrite worksheet as a quick, summative activity
    • Hexagonal Thinking group activity for higher order thinking

Happy teaching! I hope you and your students enjoy it as much as we did!
