Description

This lesson on gerrymandering and redistricting is a perfect overview for your Civics or American Government classroom.

The download includes both PowerPoint and Google Slides presentations, guided notes, a simulation activity, worksheet, and full lesson plan

The presentation is an engaging overview that explains what gerrymandering is, provides examples of how it had been used, and the impact that it can have on American politics. It includes a warm up question along with teacher notes and fantastic visuals throughout. The guided notes worksheet is perfectly aligned with the presentation and is also editable if you want to make any changes.

A Google Slides version is included along with a fully-narrated "flipped classroom" video version of the presentation. The video is perfect for flipping your class, showing in class, sharing with absent students, or watching yourself to prep for the lesson.

Next, students work on a simulation in which they attempt to redistrict or gerrymander their state districts based on five roles serving on a redistricting taskforce. An analysis worksheet is included for afterwards along with discussion questions for the classroom. Both printable and Google Drive versions of this are included.

Everything is organized with a lesson plan that explains each resource and also includes links to online sources and videos to supplement the lesson!

This resource can also be downloaded as part of my Political Parties & Elections Unit or my Complete American Government Curriculum Bundle.

Thanks so much for checking it out!
