Description

This MS PowerPoint presentation provides an easy-to-understand and classroom-tested technique for solving 2D geometric rotations problems. I use this presentation in my 9-11th grade Math 1, Math 2 and Algebra 1 classes during our review of the first of the four (4) transformations (translations, reflections, rotations and dilations). The presentation is very detailed and fully animated to keep the students engaged and focused. It includes detailed, animated steps on how to rotate 2D shapes on the coordinate plane. All rotation examples are rotations about the origin (0,0).

At the outset the presentation slidepack includes a review of the vocabulary, concepts and symbology associated with geometric rotations. Following these initial slides, several slides are provided that detail the 3 methods that are typically used to describe or define a geometric rotation. Following this review, three (3) example rotation problems are completed using the detailed steps listed for rotating 2D shapes.

I always print a hardcopy of the slidepack for my students to review and use as I go through the slide presentation. This way they can take notes on the slides and attempt to solve the problems themselves. The detailed solution steps for all three (3) problems are included in this ppt presentation slidepack.

A total of 25 slides are included in this slidepack. The last 3 slides each include a problem for the students to solve on their own using the solution steps reviewed in the slidepack. The native MS PowerPoint ppt file is included to allow the teacher/end user to modify any of the slides if desired.

Other MS PPT products for Math 1, Math 2, Math 3, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry and PreCalculus curriculum topics can be reviewed and purchased under my TpT page titled: "Priceless Math".

Develop definitions of rotations, reflections, and translations in terms of angles, circles, perpendicular lines, parallel lines, and line segments.
Given a geometric figure and a rotation, reflection, or translation, draw the transformed figure using, e.g., graph paper, tracing paper, or geometry software. Specify a sequence of transformations that will carry a given figure onto another.
Use geometric descriptions of rigid motions to transform figures and to predict the effect of a given rigid motion on a given figure; given two figures, use the definition of congruence in terms of rigid motions to decide if they are congruent.
