GERMAN CONVERSATION STARTERS FOR ADVANCED BEGINNERS TO INTERMEDIATE STUDENTS

    Description

DAZ DAF GERMAN FOR CHILDREN BEGINNER GERMAN INTERMEDIATE GERMAN 50 GERMAN RESOURCES @ $1.85 EACH IN THE BUNDLE WITH FREE BONUS SET OF 100 GERMAN CONVERSATION STARTERS

This bundle is ideal for beginner German, advanced beginner German and intermediate German 50 resources featuring active, differentiated, multi-skill and independent learning activities. Some of the resources overlap the elementary to middle or high school beginner range, though I’ve found that students, regardless of ages, often benefit from, and genuinely enjoy, working with activities that are primarily designed for other ability or knowledge stages. This may be either as practice and revision, or as additional or more accessible and manageable challenge. These factors are all key to motivating learners to engage with, and progress in, a new language.

There’s certainly significant prep work involved with some of the resources – I always laminate my language and task cards for example (and there are a lot of them!), as they’re much more easy to manipulate, and so far more learner-friendly. They do however last for years, so for me, laminating is definitely worth the prep time and extra expense. You don’t have to prepare them all at once – the resources are definitely useful for the longer-term, so you can take your time with the prep, focusing on what you’re working with at any specific stage.

Over time, I’ve created activity folders with ready-made resources in, and give my students free-choice time – alone, in pairs or small groups. They decide what they’d like to work on for half an hour or so, and sometimes even a full lesson. We do this pretty regularly, as it’s great for keeping language fresh, and ideal for both consolidation and revision. Additionally, and equally importantly, it helps students develop independent learning skills, moving away from teacher-led learning, and gives them real insight into their own learning progress. The workbooks, worksheets and word searches for example are good to go – simply print and photocopy. Currently, I’m not able to offer any resources as a digital activity – the system does not digitise zipped files, but certainly in the future as soon as this function is enabled, the resources will all be available digitally too.

German phonics, speaking, pronunciation, listening, reading, spelling two sets of 99 German rhyming words cards featuring a range of sounds in German, each with a whole-group presentation and practice activity. We revisit the activities frequently to help students develop phonic awareness and a thorough understanding of how German spelling and sounds work. I've found that students are quickly able to recognise sound patterns, enabling them to predict the pronunciation of new words accurately. The whole-group presentations are non-editable for copyright reasons, but move forward via a click as a slide show, with all the rhymes and corresponding sounds grouped together - I often use these at the beginning of the lesson, or a 5-minute pronunciation and speaking break during a lesson, again at very regular intervals.

German Word Searches Word searches a fabulous way of encouraging German students to engage with the written word in German, practicing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. They're easily differentiated, ensuring that students have scaffolded challenge. They're really versatile too - I tend to have folders of a range of themed word searches ready in folders - we can just pick them up and they’re good to go for homeschooling, as starters, refreshers, plenaries, fun-time fillers and sub lessons at any time during the school year, as well as when there’s a particular focus on the target vocabulary. Both sets include a range of grid templates for students to put together their own word searches for each other, giving them the opportunity to apply language creatively and practically.
