Description

Readers' Theater Poetry (Grades 3, 4, 5 & 6): ANOTHER SILLY POEMS COLLECTION: This is a 10-poem collection of super-fast and funny readers’ theater scripts that are . . . well . . . silly poems. The 10 readers' theater poems in the collection are:

* Picking Pickles

* Losing to My Brother

* My Robot

* The Bet

* Stuck Between Two Sisters

* Babysitting Superman

* The Sandwich in My Desk

* Belching Betsy Bree

* Blinking When You Sneeze

* Playing Ball

Each poem in the collection is presented as a very short stand-alone script that's only about 1-page long. However, Appendix A: Silly-poem Compilations provides three additional scripts—each comprised of 3–4 of the poems from the collection woven into a single script, making it so a group of students has a longer script to practice and perform.

The scripts include lists of “Watch-out words!” This feature highlights challenging words for which students may need help as they practice. These words also make terrific candidates for classroom vocabulary instruction.

If you choose to do script-based vocabulary instruction, Appendix B: Word Work provides vocabulary pages for the three silly-poem compilations. Each vocabulary page uses four of the “Watch-out words!” from the corresponding silly-poem compilation. A Word Work: Sample Answer Key provides a basic, kid-friendly explanation of each word’s meaning, which can be used when actively teaching students the words.

For a classroom reading block, readers’ theater can be used as a student-monitored station during small-group instructional time, and Appendix C: Weekly Practice Checklist provides a framework for students’ day-by-day practice.

Additional materials include a basic overview of readers' theater, 2 pages of tips and tricks for successful implementation, and a listing of some of the applicable Common Core State Standards for grades 3–6.

ANOTHER SILLY POEMS COLLECTION is ready to provide a fast, funny, and favorite source of fluency practice for your third-grade, fourth-grade, fifth-grade, or sixth-grade students!
