Functional Language document and posters for ESL

These documents and posters have been create for ESL students with French as their first language.

Many students learning a second language fear the judgement of other when they try to speak. In feeling so, they refrain from speaking at all and are blocked in their production of the second language.

The point f this document is to reduce this feeling to its maximum so students feels like they know the bases for communication in the second language.

Here is how I use it in my ESL classroom:

Students see one bloc of 5 sentences per week and must learn them by heart. By doing so, they can then change certain words in each sentence to discuss in English and inform others of their needs and opinions.

In the evaluation, I check if students can say correctly the sentence in English (I ask them to tell me the French sentence I tell them in English). I circle their number in the Evaluation note document. I circle half if they know half the words, and so on and so forth.

I can automatically confirm if students study the sentences or not and I can see an evolution of their use of English in everyday use.
