Fun Workplace Skills Escape Room Activity

Teamwork and collaboration are valuable workplace skills. Have students work in small groups to master a set of tasks and "escape." This workplace skills-themed escape room requires students to work through a set of tasks, referred to as locks, and solve each puzzle. Students will collect 8 codes that will then be entered into an automatic answer checking electronic form. Student workplace skill knowledge will be tested as students work together to solve the puzzles. No physical locks are needed to conduct this escape activity.

This activity covers: customer service skills, conflict resolution strategies (including competing, accommodating, avoiding, collaborating, and compromising), leadership styles (including democratic, autocratic, and laissez-faire), personal qualities for employability, S.M.A.R.T. goals, prioritizing tasks, communication styles (including passive, aggressive, passive-aggressive, and assertive), organization, and negotiation

This activity is best completed after students have completed the other activities in the Workplace Skills Bundle. Alternatively, students could use the Internet to research information needed to solve each puzzle. Time to complete the activity will vary based on student content knowledge and if the print or digital version is used (digital tends to take less time).

This activity set can be completed within a variety of courses such as business, management, marketing, or career exploration. Through this activity students will be able to demonstrate teamwork and collaboration and apply workplace skills to various scenarios. This is a great way to engage your students and get them interested in the content. The premise for this escape activity is: You are on the job hunt and need to prove you have effective workplace skills. Master each task to score your dream job. Students will solve each lock (puzzle) to get the needed codes and "escape."

The print and digital product versions cover the same material but have been provided in two formats to provide you flexibility to fit the needs of your classroom. The print version is provided as a PDF. The Google Slides™ version with the escape does NOT allow you to edit each slide individually. The digital version is perfect for distance learning, 1-to-1 schools, or reducing the activity prep. The print version gets students moving and collaborating with others in the classroom. Neither version requires any physical locks. They both utilize Google Forms™ to enter answers.
