Fun Plagiarism Fact Pattern
- Google Docs™
Description
This product contains a fictitious four-page fact pattern about a student who plagiarized her high school student government election speech, two exhibits (I.e., her speech and the internet source she copied from), and a workshop extension activity. I based the fact patter on Melania Trump's use of one of Michelle Obama's well-known speeches on the value of working hard. You can use this product to introduce students to the concept of plagiarism, its importance and consequences, and the factors (E.g., internal or external ones) that motivate students to plagiarize. You can also use this product to talk with students about the MLA-type conventions (E.g., parenthetical citations and works cited page) that guard against plagiarism. Lastly, you could put the example student, Alexa "X" Ample ("Example") in the fact-pattern in a mock-trial with attorneys, witnesses, and judges (in your class). Have fun, and don't you dare plagiarize!
