Every project has been really engaging and fun to teach. The demo videos were a great resource. My students are proud of their work
I was looking for unique projects to try something different in my classes and found this curriculum. Everything is easy to navigate and teach. All the worksheets and handouts in each unit were super helpful. I will be using these projects for years to come.

    Description

These are the full units that I use every year to teach my Drawing and Painting 1 and 2 students. There are 14 total projects that will fill more than an entire year (TWO 18 week semesters or Art 1 and Art 2) worth of an art class.

Each creative project has everything you need to teach the full unit including practice activities, powerpoints, rubrics, brainstorming and more! All you need to supply are the materials.

**Most projects are newly updated with uniform handouts and worksheets along with demo videos to make learning and teaching easy and successful**

**All Powerpoints, Rubrics and Brainstorming are editable, so you can adjust each project to fit the needs of your students**

By the end of each curriculum, students will have created many projects they are proud of, and I look forward to seeing all of the amazing artwork your students create using these units.

Also included in the bundle is a cumulative materials list with links, weekly timeline/sequence, start of the year materials, extra handouts that can be used as easy sub plans, recourses and more!

    Semester 1 Projects:

These are the projects I use to teach Drawing and Painting 1. They are a series of engaging units that explore multiple materials/techniques to expose art 1 students to as much as possible.

**These projects can be taught in different orders and switch with projects from Semester 2**

Day 1: Intro powerpoint template, activity, printable getting to know you form.

    1. Zentangle Sketchbook Cover: This project introduces value change to students along with creating basic zentangle designs into a unique background. This is the perfect project to get students interested in your class and is very open ended for every skills level to create an amazing cover for their sketchbooks. (This could also be done on paper instead of a cover).

    2. Mixed Media Principles of Design Project: This project introduces students to 6 different Principles of Design that will be used throughout the semester. Students will create a collage using different materials to represent these Principles.

    3. Cross-contour Drawing Project: This next project will introduce students to basic drawing techniques such as blind contour, cross contour, adding value change, color and more. The final project for this assignment will build students confidence in their drawing skills before they move on to more advanced techniques.

    4. Watercolor X-Ray Paintings: Students will create a project based off of a transparent "x-ray" style art. This adds a unique twist to watercolor projects taught in most art classes. The lesson includes everything you need to teach your students including

video demos that walk students through every step of the 5 pdf watercolor worksheets.

    5. Color Scheme Portraits: This portrait project will introduce students to multiple painting skills through the use of watercolor and acrylic paint, plus adding and refining details with charcoal. Students will be taught different skills for each facial feature, giving them many options and directions to find what techniques work the best for them as they work on their final portrait project. The basics of color schemes will also be taught. Demo videos walk students through all steps.

    6. Paper Quilling Project: This is a very unique project that students are always excited to create. It is perfect for every skill level and is a project unlike anything my students have done in the past. This project introduces foreground, middle ground and background, along with paper quilling shapes and techniques.

    7. Diptych Scratch Art Projects: This project introduces the basics of scratch art and builds off of the charcoal project through practicing hatching and cross-hatching value scales with an easy to follow worksheet and demo videos. Students will be introduced to surrealist artists and ideas-such as Salvidor Dali. Final projects will consist of a diptych style combination of a surrealist scene and an up close detail from the composition.

    BONUS PROJECT:

The project below can be swapped out with either the Cross-Contour Drawing Project, or the Charcoal Mixed Media Project. This is added so you can choose which fits your teaching style and students the best! :)

    • GIF Animated Drawing Project-This project teaches the basics of drawing such as blind contour, and adds a unique twist by having students animate their drawings and bring them to life.

    Semester 2 Projects:

These are the projects I use to teach my Drawing and Painting 2 class each semester. They could, however, be used in any upper middle school or high school visual arts class. They also can be taught in different orders.

These projects will dive deeper into drawing and painting skills.

    7. Quote Design Sketchbook Covers: This project does not have to be completed as a cover, it can easily be adapted to fill a piece of paper instead. Students will learn about the basics of composition and symbolism through 2 practice activities and their final project.

    8. Charcoal Mixed Media Project: This is an in-depth drawing project that focuses on building off students drawing skills from the contour project 1st semester. Students will practice with both black and gray backgrounds to find which color paper they would like to use on their final project. They will also be taught and practice hatching, cross hatching and blending to emphasize the form of their objects. Demo videos walk students through each step of practice.

    9. Impressionist Style Painting Project: Students will first learn about color theory and how to mix/match any hue, shade tone and tint using acrylic paint with easy to follow worksheets and demo videos. Students will then be introduced to impressionist style painters and learn about the qualities of impressionism and how to apply it to their own final painting project.

    10. Macro Colored Pencil Project: Students will be taught in depth colored pencil techniques such as burnishing, layering and matching color swatches. Worksheets and demo videos are included for each step. They will take their own macro reference pictures for this project and be taught the basics of composition.

    11. Black out Poetry Triptych Paintings: This is one of my favorite projects to teach, as there are so many skills and techniques involved. Students will learn how to create and represent a black out poem through symbolism. They will also be taught many acrylic and oil painting skills to choose what they like the best to apply to their final project. (If you do not use oil paint in your class, this can easily be removed from the lesson). Lastly, students will learn how to create unity in their 3 panels. Demo videos and worksheets included!

    12. Collage Portrait Project: This project introduces students to using collaged materials to put together a portrait that follows value change and a color scheme. Students will apply what they have learned on previous projects, such as painting and techniques to add layers of detail back into the face on top of their mixed media collage. I am always impressed with the creative and unique ideas and materials students put together for this unit.

    BONUS PROJECT #2:

You can dd this extra painting project into the curriculum at any point! It is added to give you an additional project to choose from and use :)

    • Word Art Drawing Project: This project will continue to push students use of value change in a new/creative way and can be taught at any point in. the year. Students will use text to illustrate an image of a person, place or object that has personal meaning to them. For the background students will used a mixed medium collage style to create unity, texture, movement and frame the focal point. An in-depth practice with text and background design will help students create amazing work!
