    Description

This product is a social narrative with a correlating sorting activity revolving around how to be a good friend. It was designed for students with autism and is perfect to help all kids (especially those in enrolled in special education services) understand the steps in being a good friend. This activity is designed to touch on the basics by describing a good friend, then doing a sorting activity to provide examples of the behaviors of a good friend versus a bad friend.

The social narrative includes ways to be a good friend, such as listening (and what listening is), being interested (and how to be interested), sharing, and helping others. It includes clipart for visual supports.

This product also includes a good friend sort (with safe friend and kind friend sort templates if you prefer that terminology). It comes with a red/green sorting background, along with 16 icons to sort that are centered around being a good friend versus bad friend. It is meant to be a supplemental activity for teaching appropriate versus inappropriate behavior relating to friendship.

    Directions:

    • Read the social story with students and go over the process of being a good friend.
    • Distribute red/green templates to every student.
    • Cut out the icons and have students match them with being a good friend vs. a bad friend by gluing them on the red/green template.

It includes 3 red/green templates for sorting that you can choose from:

    • Safe vs Unsafe
    • Kind vs Unkind
    • Good Friend vs Bad Friend
