Description

This Friendship Bracelet Activity is a great social skills/team building project. This is a great project to kick off a new school year! Kids are encouraged to help each other with color selection and set up. Crafting is a great way to improve fine motor skills. Also included is an "Observations and Reflections" page. This can be used for several writing prompts.

This is a very inexpensive craft that has proven to have high interest and engagement with my students. For about $20.00, a teacher can buy a bag of about 107 skeins of embroidery floss from any big box store that sells crafts. (Some stores give a teacher discount!) Each skein has about 7 yards of floss (8 meters), which can be cut into about 12 lengths for these bracelets. (20 inches each) Ok, let’s do the math! 12 lengths x 107 skeins = 1,284 lengths. Each student needs 7 lengths, so $20.00 gets you enough floss for about 183 students! Need less? For a pack of 36 skeins you might pay about $5.00. Again, here’s the math. The skeins are the same, so 12 lengths x 36 skeins = 432 lengths. 432 divided by 7 (per student) = 61 students. FOR $5.00!!

Self-esteem is supported when a student finishes a craft. A sense of pride is fostered when the finished craft is worn or a gift is given that has been made by the student. Encourage team spirit by having the students use school colors.
