French Pink Shirt Day Printable Activities | La Journée du chandail rose

Pink Shirt Day/la Journée du chandail rose is celebrated on the last Wednesday of February each year. People wear pink shirts to take a stand against bullying. These French Pink Shirt Day printable activities will encourage important discussions about bullying/l'intimidation in your Junior FSL classroom. These printable activities can also be used during International Day of Pink.

Before starting your lesson/unit:

- Show the video "La danse des brutes" to students: La danse des brutes (ONF)

- Hand out a sticky note to students and ask them to write/draw acts of bullying or violence (des gestes de violence ou d'intimidation) seen in the video

- Before sharing your findings, introduce the 4 types of bullying (les 4 formes d'intimidation): l'intimidation physique, l'intimidation verbale, l'intimidation sociale et la cyberintimidation

- Share examples from the video and sort them using the 4 types of bullying

- Watch the video a 2nd time but this time ask students to focus on the bully (l'intimidateur/l'intimidatrice), the victim (la victime), the bystander(s) (le/s témoin/s passif/s ou le/s complice/s) and the upstander(s) (le/s témoin/s actif/s)

- The following questions can be asked to help students: "Pourquoi penses-tu que ce personnage est l'intimidateur?", "Pourquoi penses-tu que ce personnage est la victime?", "Qui sont les témoins passifs? Pourquoi sont-ils des témoins passifs?", "Qui sont les témoins actifs? Pourquoi sont-ils des témoins actifs?", "Est-il plus facile d'être un témoin passif ou un témoin actif? Pourquoi?"

- TIC-TAC-MOTS game for students (includes game board, game pieces and sentence recording sheet)
