French Flash Cards: Numbers, Colors (Colours) Weather, Months, Seasons

Beginner French vocabulary resources: Les nombres, les couleurs, la météo, les mois, les saisons. You will find both a Canadian and U.S. version of the "Seasons, Months, Days" file in this download. Simply keep the file you want, and delete the one you will not use.

I originally designed these materials to support Canadian Core French/FSL teachers who teach slightly older beginning students (grades 3-8?). Sometimes we are thrown into teaching French without a lot of experience and resources but this can help get you started.

These are very simple reference materials at a beginner level with a focus on flash cards and student reference pages from which you can launch your own ideas. Have a look at the thumbnails and preview to see samples of what’s included. Use the zoom feature on the preview to get a closer look. This is not a worksheet heavy resource. I'm not a big fan of too many worksheets so you may need to supplement worksheets in light of Covid and social distancing.

This is not a unit plan and there is no teacher's guide, but I did provide a couple of pages of ideas. There are many, many ways to use these flash cards. I can't possibly list them all here:) I'm sure colleagues and pro-d workshops will provide many new ideas I haven't learned yet. Enjoy!

About the price: This product is all about options. There are approximately 80+ unique pages. Most are flash cards plus a few handouts. Within that number, there are often a few sets of cards on the same topic in different sizes. In addition to that number, anything in colour has a black and white version. Then there are some alternate images, and alternate weather terms. I tried to organize the pages so you could use the least amount of paper and ink possible. It meant adding a few extra pages of data. You might use all the options for various activities, or you might not. That is why the price seems low for so many pages.

What's Included:

There is a black and white version of all the coloured flash cards. I divided the materials into two separate files per subject, one colour, one black and white. Example: There is a weather file in colour, and a separate weather file in black and white.

1) Student Pages:

•Ten reference handouts/worksheets on 6 topics: weather, seasons, months, days, numbers, and colours

• All of these pages have been included in the preview

2) Seasons, Months, Days:

• 16 Illustrated word wall cards for months and seasons with many alternate illustrations for Canadians and Americans.

• Smaller picture cards with no words for months and seasons

• Word wall cards for days of the week (no illustrations)

3) Colours:

• 13 Word Wall cards in the masculine form: rouge, orange, jaune, vert, bleu, violet, rose, gris, noir, blanc, or, argent, brun, (+marron as alternate to brun)

• Smaller picture cards with no words

4) Numbers:

• Word wall cards for the numbers 1-31

• Word wall cards for the numbers 10-100 by tens (ex: dix, vingt, trente....cent)

5) Weather:

• 14 large illustrated flash cards with the question “Quel temps fait-il?”

• 14 illustrated word wall cards with common expressions plus several alternate terms

• 14 smaller picture cards with the question “Quel temps fait-il?”

*All the Weather Terms:

Il fait du soleil./Il fait beau. C'est nuageux. Il neige. Il pleut. Il fait du vent. Il fait de l'orage./Il fait mauvais. Il fait chaud. Il fait froid. Il fait frais. Il fait du brouillard. Plus 4 nouns: la pluie, un flocon de neige, un éclair, un arc-en-ciel.

Alternate terms: Il fait soleil. Il y a du soleil. Il y a du vent. Il y a du brouillard. Il y a de l'orage. Il y a des nuages. Il fait gris.

This is a .zip file. Make sure you have the right application to download this type of file. I created these products on a Mac and the files are in pdf. They should be compatible with all computers, but sometimes there is an extra step involved to open the .zip files. Also, be aware that this is a rather large file.
