This lesson and coordinating musical activities were created to bring the spirit of Congo Square into your classroom. Use the teaching process included in the lesson plan to help guide you on teaching the material to students. The Melody of Freedom should be sung after reading each stanza in the book. The short melody will keep students engaged throughout the reading and offers some musical diversity to the book. The percussion activity can be performed as a stand alone piece or can accompany the book as well. Utilize the MP3 track with this lesson to provide rhythmic support.
