What educators are saying

A great set of questions that allowed students to remain engaged in the films while thoughtfully responding to questions.
This was the perfect way for my students to use their listening and note-taking skills during testing week. It was engaging and would definitely do it again.

    Description

Here are two great documentary films by Academy Award-winning film director, Jimmy Chin. Both Free Solo and The Rescue highlight stories about how individuals can overcome tremendous physical and mental challenges, while performing gracefully under pressure. Both films bring into focus how regular people can do extraordinary feats.

Free Solo is about Alex Honnold's great feat of climbing El Capitan in Yosemite Park without ropes and The Rescue is about the impressive accomplishment of volunteer cave divers who rescue 12 boys and their coach from a flooded cave in Northern Thailand.

Film Guides are straight forward while allowing for deeper thinking about:

    -risk taking

    -skill building

    -positive self-talk

    -goal setting.

These two films have staying power and build in students the belief that, through skill-building, they too can accomplish great things!
