You can use this resource as an engaging-yet-rigorous fraction test prep activity! This fraction room transformation activity pack provides a way for students to relate fractions to an interesting real-world scenario. Simply decorate your classroom like an ice cream shop and use these fraction task cards as themed math centers. Your students will love rotating through the fraction centers on this ice cream day!

This resource was designed to use as individual stations during an ice cream themed fraction room transformation. However, the activities may be used during guided math groups or even as a buddy activity.

Here's What's Included:

  • Key Word Matching: Students will work in groups to identify important fraction key words. They will match the word to its definition and example. (Color + B&W Version)

  • Vocabulary Flip Book: Record the definition and examples of fraction key terms.

  • Frosty’s Lab: Help students understand how fractions can be used to represent a part of a group. Students will create models to help them visualize the denominator and the numerator in a group. (Color + B&W Version)

  • What's the Scoop? Understanding how the numerator and denominator in a fraction can tell us how many are in a part of a group. Students will find how many are in a part of a group by modeling fractions with manipulatives. (Color + B&W Version)

  • Fraction Challenge/ Face-Off: Students challenge the opposing team to see who has the largest fraction! Students will compare fractions with different numerators and denominators. They will use the >,<, and = symbols when comparing two fractions. (Color +B&W Version)

  • Ice Cream Station: Students will review fractions of a whole. Students will create their own fraction sundae by following the fraction recipe on each card.

  • Fraction True/False Comparison: Students will break down fractions to determine whether the comparisons are true or false. (QR Codes for self-checking included!)

  • Scoops on a Line: Students will scoot around the room to locate fractions on a number line. (Color +B&W Version)

  • Scooping up Fractions: Students will solve a variety of fraction-related questions to move across the game board.
