This foundational documents bundle includes 8 different resources to teach the foundational documents required for the newly redesigned AP® U.S. Government exam. Each resource is offered for 20% off its original price! The bundle also includes a bonus folder with a free extra Declaration of Independence activity that highlights the document's main principles, and will challenge students to create a new, modern day version! Each resource comes with directions and an answer key for your convenience!
Read below for more information about what is included in this resource:
-Constitutional or Unconstitutional? Activity and Outlines: Includes outlines of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights, as well as an activity and game that will better familiarize your students with both founding documents- fun and informative!
-The Federalist Papers: Analysis of 10, 51, and 78: This resource comes with both a standard and advanced version, so you can choose which is right for your students! The standard version breaks the papers down into short excerpts, while the advanced version challenges students to tackle the documents as a whole. Students will work together to break down these three important Federalist papers- perfect for a jigsaw activity!
-Federalist 70: This resource features a full lesson on Federalist 70, including a Four Corners warm-up/closure activity and a two-page graphic organizer.
- Brutus 1 Analysis: This resource comes with two teaching options. Both options break down Brutus 1 into 19 short excerpts that highlight key arguments of the document. In the first version, students will match pre-written annotations/summaries with their correct corresponding excerpt. In the second version, students will write their own annotations/summaries for each passage- great for a jigsaw activity!
-Federalists vs. Anti-Federalists Comparison Chart: This comparison chart is a great tool to be used after teaching the Federalist Papers and Brutus 1. Students will recount the arguments of both groups after studying the primary sources. This provides a perfect way to summarize and debrief and will leave your students with a great study tool for later.
-Articles of Confederation vs. U.S. Constitution Comparison Chart: This comparison chart will help your students to recall the structural differences between the Articles of Confederation and the U.S. Constitution. It also includes a chart to compare the weaknesses of the Articles to the actions taken in the Constitution to fix them. Again, this serves as a great study tool for later!
-Letter From a Birmingham Jail: Activity and Graphic Organizer: This lesson provides an engaging Four Corners introductory activity that will get your students thinking and moving. It also includes a three-page graphic organizer that will break down the key concepts and messages of the letter. The graphic organizer also has an optional 4th summary page that can be used in place of or in addition to the graphic organizer. There are also three discussion questions included.
-Declaration of Independence Activity (Located in the Bonus Folder): This resource includes a short power point that teaches students about the main sections and principles of the document. Students will then be challenged to create their own modern-day version of the Declaration of Independence that retains the document's original meaning, but breaks it down into terms that can be easily understood.
