Video Availability: Forensic Files (aka Medical Detectives) videos are available free/pay through a number of streaming and online sites including: YouTube, Amazon, IMDB and more. Please check that you have access to the video before making your TPT purchase of this video worksheet. Each episode is 20-22 minutes.

The question sheets go in order through each episode with a focus on the science behind each case as well as the legal circumstances. I try to provide a variety of episodes to give students a wide range of ideas on how the career of a forensic scientist works. The episodes included in this bundle package (with their season and episode number) are:

Badge of Betrayal (Season 9, Episode 18)

A college student’s body is found along a deserted stretch of California freeway. She has been strangled to death and there is no signs of robbery or rape. There is also no visible evidence. However, fiber samples are soon found on the victim…and in the car of a police officer who claimed to be miles away at the time of the crime. Will this small amount of evidence be enough to capture a killer?

Dockter Visit (Season 11, Episode 6)

A WWII veteran is shot and killed during the robbery of his home. Unfortunately forensic experts can’t find the bullet used in the crime and they have little evidence to work with. It will take ballistics experts, physics, shoeprints, and candy wrappers in order to find the missing bullet, catch the killer, and bring him to justice.

Double Cross (Season 13, Episode 5)

A Naval Officer video tapes a confession where she names several men who allegedly raped her. A few days later the officer and one of her attackers are found dead in her apartment. But is everything as it seems? It will take forensic evidence and crime scene analysts over a decade to solve the case and bring the killer to justice.

Double Trouble (Season 6, Episode 26)

A woman is murdered in New Jersey. Her body is found with skin samples under her fingernails and bite marks on her chin. A short time later a female police officer in Maine is assaulted by a man who bites her on the chin. Are these two crimes connected? Will DNA and odontology evidence be enough to convict one man of both crimes?

Fire Dot Com (Season 6, Episode 6)

A rental home burns down and kills one of two children. When arson investigators claim the fire was started on purpose the victim’s mother is arrested and charged. However a second evaluation points the picture to surprising evidence that was missed during the first investigation. But will it be enough to clear the mother and bring justice to the family?

For Love or Money (Season 9, Episode 27)

A rich businessman in Las Vegas disappears. Police find his skull but his body and the remaining evidence were burned in a massive fire out in the desert. With no murder weapon it will take luck, a television program, blood spatter analysts and ballistics experts to help lead police to the killer and a motive as old as crime itself.

Hair of the Dog (Season 8, Episode 18)

A known drug dealer is found murdered in his home. His dog and gun collection are both missing. Soon the dog is found leaving forensic experts to wonder if there is a chance the dog may help them close this case and catch a killer. It will take DNA testing and handwriting experts to finally narrow down the three prime suspects to the true killer.

Last Dance (Season 13, Episode 7)

An exotic dancer’s body is found at the bottom of a bridge where she apparently committed suicide. However blood and fiber evidence found on the bridge lead investigators to think the victim was thrown off of the bridge by a killer. A prime suspect is quickly identified but it will take video camera footage, blood spatter, and DNA evidence to close this case.

Last Will (Season 7, Episode 42)

A high school student is kidnapped in her driveway and her parent’s begin receiving phone calls from the kidnapper. No ransom is requested and days later the victim’s body is found. Soon another girl is kidnapped and murdered. Investigators are at a loss until a closer examination of the first victim’s handwritten last will and testament reveals a clue that will help lead authorities to the killer.

    Waste Mis-Management (Season 13, Episode 46)

A woman disappears and investigators suspect foul play after her apartment has been thoroughly cleaned and her car is found missing. A search of the dumpster outside reveal numerous pieces of evidence including duct tape, electrical cord, and torn clothing. When a prime suspect is finally identified it will take DNA matching on two key pieces of evidence to place him at the scene of the crime.

Questions on each assignment go in order and will help students remain focused on key science topics. Two extended response questions are on the back of the worksheet (description, sequence, compare/contrast, etc…) which are perfect for reflection and discussion at the conclusion of the video. A power point is also provided with 10 additional writing prompt questions (one per episode) that go beyond those provided on the worksheet. This is a great way to begin class the following day (or perhaps a “pop quiz” to see who watched the episode).

DOC & PDF VERSIONS! All worksheets are provided as MS-Word documents so you can edit as needed. Worksheets have also been provided as PDF for ease of use/printing. Answer sheets are not provided.

I hope you and your students find this purchase useful and it gives them great insight into the important field of forensic science. Please check my TPT store for additional Forensic Files worksheets, bundles, and informational articles.

Thank you for your purchase and for taking the time to leave me positive feedback.
