What educators are saying

This was exactly what I was looking for so that my students could identify a food chain and how it works. Thank you!
During out unit on plants and plant growth, we touch upon food chains. This resource was a the perfect little addition to support our understanding. We only completed the forest ecosystem foldout but they loved it. I will use this again next year. Thanks!

Description

A science craft activity that can be differentiated if required. These food chains printables can be used for science centers, interactive notebooks and to support learning about ecosystems, feeding relationships, and habitats. The hands-on design also makes them a bit different from a standard food chain worksheet!

This resource has templates for food chains in 3 different habitats - woodland, ocean, and rainforest. For each one, there are 4 options included:

1. Color the pre-designed template (with animals and plants already included), cut, and fold.

2. Color the food chain, sequence the animals/plants to show who eats who, glue them onto the template, cut and fold.

3. Students draw their own food chain on a black and white template, cut and fold.

4. Students draw their own food chain on a pre-colored template, cut and fold.

Once folded, students can hide their food chain by bringing the 2 halves of the template together, then gently pull apart to reveal the inside (see preview video).

There is minimal prep required. Print the designs you plan to use on letter-sized paper or card. Pupils need colored pencils and scissors. One template in each habitat set requires glue.

Instructions for how to fold are included (you may wish to make an example beforehand for those who might find folding tricky).

What teachers are saying about this resource:

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 'These were a great support to my food chain unit. The kids looked forward to making each of these after learning about each habitat food chain.'

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐'This was a wonderful addition to our Structures of Life science unit! My kids loved completing the food chains.'

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 'This is a great activity for students to show their understanding of food chains, but also gives options for different habitats/environments so multiple chains can be made. This could be used as a craft activity or a fun way to check for independent understanding of food chains!'

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Food chains is one of my favorite things to teach. You have made it fun! My students loved it!
