Description

Students become a part of a FOOD WEB in this simulation using a series of FOOD CHAINS. Students work together as a whole class and build a FOOD WEB using rope/string. Once the web is built, students can easily see the interconnected nature of life. Teacher prompts to kill off certain organisms, having students drop their string and all attachments lead to deeper understanding of environmental impacts. Students then take that knowledge and draw the FOOD WEB on their worksheets using the FOOD CHAINS.

A high interest, fun, hands on lab experience for students ranging from 6th-12th grade. Use as either an introduction or a review of the concept.

The experience has built in ENL and special education modifications to allow all learners access to the curriculum (developed with a co-teacher). The experience has been tested and implemented with well over 100 students to ensure quality.

Lab station materials provided along with a student worksheet.

Questions at the end of the lesson asses understanding.

Additional supplies needed: Rope/String.

Lesson Time: 45-60 min
