Description
Many students with special needs can understand what they are reading, but have difficulty communicating with those around them. I created these activities for a young man who is non-verbal, but who can read and understand the directions words give him. When I first gave him comprehension questions, he could not select a correct answer. When I started giving him written commands, he could complete the task he was asked to do. This indicated that his understanding of words was far more than he could otherwise show. His family was amazed when we showed them that he could in fact read much more than we could otherwise assess!
This compilation is made up of my original drawings that give tasks for the student to complete. I use a combination of symbols, pictures, and words to see what level the student can understand.
