What educators are saying

We loved this story! My students had a magician who used this story during his routine prior to working on it in class. I was waiting for the lightbulb to go off that they'd heard it before. It made for some good connections! Excellent resource and thought provoking questions!

This readers' theater script is adapted from a Chinese folktale. It tells the story of an emperor who is looking for his replacement. He gives each boy an empty pot and some seeds. The one who has the greatest success will wear the crown. Many boys try to show him false results. Jun is the only one who is honest, and he is rewarded by the emperor. The themes of this tale are: always do your best, and honesty is the best policy.

This activity is suitable for large or small classrooms from upper elementary grades to middle school special education and remedial reading.
