The Brain and Emotions is a 2 lesson unit on the parts of the brain, how the brain controls our emotions, the hand model of the brain, what it means to flip our lid and our body's reaction to big emotions that cause flight, fight or freeze responses. Then break your class into team and have them play the Review Game to see what they learned and can remember!

    ●●● Students learn the hand model of the brain to understand the brain functions and learn how our body reactions with a calm brain (upstairs brain) versus our downstairs brain where our guard dog (amygdala) makes decisions. The wise owl, guard dog, prefrontal cortex, cerebellum, cerebrum, hippocampus, amygdala, upstairs brain, downstairs brain and flipping our lid are discussed.

    Students will also learn and discuss coping strategies to use when their "downstairs" brain takes over. Worksheets, scripted lesson plans, posters, and both a presentation (in both PowerPoint and Google Slides(TM) are included.

    Use the Review Game as a fun follow up to make sure your students learned and can recall the lessons.
