Instructors manual: How to Use the First Strokes Program - The instructors manual is a training program for multi sensory handwriting techniques, with reference pages, printables and training for how to use the program. Perfect for inservices for your school or clinic, and perfect to teach HOW to teach handwriting! Do your students struggle with letter formation and sequencing the letters in the correct pattern? This manual has many techniques for FUN ways of working on patterning through large motor, medium motor and small motor activities.

Modules - the program is broken up into training modules to teach letters within letter groups categories by the "First Stroke". The module file has introduction pages for each module with stroke group and letter practice. Each module also has a fine motor warm up for pencil control. Workbooks - the program has a lower case / upper case workbook. It is recommended that letters be taught categories by the "First Stroke" to get motor patterning of the letters. For example, in the lower case program, just by teaching a circle stroke, short line down, and a tall line down, those are the "First Strokes" for the first 17 letters of the alphabet! (o a d g q c, i r n m p j, l t h b k)!

A big part of the program is teaching children to write on three lined paper so that children can learn sizing and spacing concepts. Handwriting readiness suggests that children are more ready with fine and visual motor skills around age 6. Of course handwriting is taught to 4 and 5 year olds in recent years. The First Strokes Program is simplified with very short verbal cueing methods, motoric practice of letters and visual memory techniques. This program is recommended for the middle of kindergarten through 1st grade. STOP Letter Reversal Program - Comprehensive letter reversal program for letters b,d,g,j,q,s,e,z

Extra practice file - This includes medium motor activities with extra large letters in handwriting lines. These are printable inserts that an instructor can put into a sheet protector and make a binder for students. The students would practice writing the letters with a dry erase marker on the extra large handwriting lines. The practice file also includes extra handwriting practice pages and sentence generalization activities.

Grading rubrics - this will allow an educator to test sequencing and knowledge of the letters in the program to take data on each student if desired. It is important to know which letters students form incorrectly, so that students can have more practice to form correctly. Once letters become sequenced incorrectly as a motoric habit, it is very difficult to change! Therefore, this program works to prevent incorrect sequencing!
