Description

Teach your students how to write free verse and acrostic poems! This first grade poetry writing unit includes everything you need: writing lessons, printable writing paper, posters and visuals, and more.

This 2-week unit begins with students learning to use descriptive language to write simple free verse and acrostic poems.

Since this unit is designed to wrap up the entire First Grade Writing Workshop Curriculum Bundle, you'll also find end-of-the-year writing activities, an end-of-the-year memory book, and writing assessments at the end of the unit. If you only want to work on poetry writing, you can skip these activities and save them for another time.

In this first grade writing unit, students will learn how to:

- Use descriptive language

- Use “five senses words” to create sensory imagery

- Revise and edit their poems independently and with a partner

This unit includes:

- 10 detailed writing lessons (minilessons)

- Instructions for administering end-of-the-year benchmark writing assessments for narrative, informational, and opinion writing

- 3 end-of-the-year quick writing activities

- An end-of-the-year memory book for students to write in

- Daily language arts/grammar exercises that complement the writing lessons
