    The 1st Grade Phonics Curriculum contains 36 weeks, or 180 days, of explicit phonics instruction.

    The First Grade Phonics Curriculum includes daily lessons with:

    • Phonics warm ups
    • Phonemic awareness lessons
    • Teacher-led phonics lessons
    • Student practice
    • Independent phonics worksheets
    • Optional phonics partner games for literacy centers

    ✔️What is this curriculum? The First Grade Phonics Curriculum was designed with whole group phonics in mind. This will be your tier 1 phonics instruction meant to teach every student every day.

    ✖️This curriculum is NOT meant for small groups phonics instruction. For that, I would highly recommend the Science of Reading Guided Curriculum.

    The First Grade Phonics Curriculum will be made up of 5 phonics units:

    • CVC Words [alphabet and letter sounds review, short vowels, VCCV syllable division]
    • Digraphs and Blends [Digraphs, beginning and ending blends, glued sounds, suffixes]
    • Long Vowels [Open and closed syllables, VCe syllables, CVCe words, hard and soft c and g, VCV syllable division, suffixes]
    • Advanced sounds [r-controlled vowels, sounds of y, suffixes, r-controlled syllables]
    • Long Vowels and Beyond [Vowel teams, diphthongs, multisyllabic words]

    1st Grade Phonics Units:

    • Unit 1: CVC Words (6 weeks)
    • Unit 2: Digraphs and Blends (10 weeks)
    • Unit 3: Long Vowels (6 weeks)
    • Unit 4: Advanced Sounds (5 weeks)
    • Unit 5: Long Vowels and Beyond (9 weeks)

    Can I use the First Grade Phonics Curriculum in a homeschool setting? Yes, absolutely! These phonics lessons will work well in both a classroom and a homeschool setting. For any partner activities, you can complete the game or reader with your child.

    Can I use the First Grade Phonics Curriculum in a grade other than 1st grade? Yes, you can, but please note that this curriculum was designed specifically with first grade skills in mind so you will want to look closely at the scope and sequence provided to see if it would be a good fit for you.

    Does this curriculum offer decodable readers? Each week includes partner decodable readers to practice the skills. These are one page decodable passages meant to be read with a partner for support. This curriculum does not include decodable books; you will want the the Science of Reading Guided Curriculum for that.
