What educators are saying

I used this with all levels of my students. My hope is that it will cut down on the number of times that someone asks me where materials are located.

Description

This first day of school activity is a GREAT way to get students moving around the classroom gaining insight on their new learning environment.

For many years, I have taught middle school and high school students that rarely look around the room to find something they need. Months into the school year I am still getting questions like "where is the pencil sharpener?" and "where are the tissues?". This is a wonderful activity to get students doing something productive and meaningful on the first day of school while you take care of housekeeping duties on the first day.

This activity has the student look around the classroom and find all of the necessary aspects of the classroom. I have also included questions about the teacher so they can learn to use those skills of observation and inference to come up with explanations about what they see.

This handout comes with 30 questions about the classroom surroundings and the teacher. It is an EDITABLE handout, so feel free to tweak some of the questions to better suit your classroom.

Enjoy and Happy First Day of School!!!
