What educators are saying

Great activities to go along with the book First Day Jitters! Even my 5th graders found this engaging.
The students loved this. They didn't know the book and had the best time listening to it and then completing the activities.

Description

***UPDATED to ALSO INCLUDE a 62 slide PowerPoint Show to use with the book First Day Jitters and all the printables!*** This back to school pack is PERFECT for the first couple weeks of school! This unit is centered around the mentor text First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg. After reading this story aloud to your students, have fun with the games, printables, activities and a PowerPoint show included in this download. Everything is ready to go!

You'll find pre-reading activities, vocabulary, story elements, grammar, and getting to know you activities in the new PowerPoint Show! You can use this digital resource along with all the awesome printables!

First Day Jitters is a book we always read on the first day of school, and it is a great way to start the new school year together! We do some of the activities together while reading the book, and other activities we do throughout the week.

The Find Someone Who Game and the Get to Know Me Dice Game help make students feel comfortable in their new classroom. We love using the Dice Game when we have a few extra minutes like right before bus call or after students finish morning work. It is quick and easy, and the students enjoy learning more about their classmates!

The All About Me poster is perfect to display on bulletin boards or in the hallway to help students get to know each other!

The jitters jar and jitter-free jellybeans are a sweet and fun way to wrap up the first day of school! Yum!

Printables included-

*Pre-reading jitters activities

*Words to know vocabulary chart

*Story elements printable

*Making words activity

*Writing about jitters

*First day of school activities

*All about me poster

*Grammar printables (nouns, verbs, adjectives and pronouns) including worksheets for assessment and a flip book

*Find someone who game

*Get to know me dice game

*Jitters jar activity

*Jitter-free jellybeans printable (a treat for your students showing them how much fun you will have together-each jellybean color represents something about the year)

We have also included a PDF file with the vocabulary and grammar slides from the PowerPoint show if you want to print them and let students paste them in their notebooks to refer to later or hang them up as reference posters. This is also a great resource for support staff as they preview and review vocabulary and parts of speech with students.

This pack really is a fun and engaging way to start the year with your new class! It is always one of my students' favorite units!

PLEASE download the PREVIEW file for a peek at this back to school unit!
