What educators are saying

I showed my students a few videos and then followed up with these notes. They are perfect because they build from finding 10% to multiples of 10% to using our knowledge of 10% to find the in-betweens - 25%, 35%, 45%. Great resource!
I loved the progression of this resource; it really helped students use estimation and simple calculations rather than just jumping to a calculator formula each time. I will definitely use this again!

Description

This lesson is meant to be used as guided notes for a whole class. Students start off by learning how to find 10% of a number, and they use this to find 20%, 30%, 40%, and other multiples of 10%. After noticing that 50% is half of a number and 25% is a fourth, they then learn how to find 5% of a number. This allows them to find 35%, 45%, etc. Finally, students do some real world math by estimating percents of numbers and approximating a couple tips at a restaurant.
