What educators are saying

This is a great resource to use as a sub plan! But you might need to translate the questions for your French 1 students.

Description

The Irish Times called "L'Ascension" a "big-hearted French crowd-pleaser" and it works well in the classroom too!* My students have loved digging into the story of Samy Diakhaté (loosely based on a true story) and all that he is willing to do for love.

This film guide includes a wide variety activities for students to do individually, with a partner and/or as a whole class. The questions and activities are designed using vocabulary and constructions that most French 1 and French 2 students will understand, thus keeping them in the target language as much as possible.

The activities in this film guide will lead students to identify and analyze key characters, make predictions, describe key plot points, compare cultures and reflect on their own learning. Sure, you could just show a cute movie over two days and leave it at that, but these activities will help deepen students' appreciation and understanding of the film while keeping them accountable for viewing attentively.

Your download includes:

1) An editable Google Form with previewing/anticipatory activities

2) An editable Google Slides presentation with before, during and after viewing discussion questions for the whole class

3) An editable Google Docs packet that includes comprehension activities and space for individual daily reflection

4) An answer key for the packet activities

5) A Start Here guide to get you off to an easy start

Hope you enjoy the film as much as my students and I have!

*As with all films, please be sure to preview this one before showing it to your class. It is unrated in the US and there is some minor language and drug innuendo that may make it inappropriate for your classroom.
