Figurative Speech Through Music: Red by Taylor Swift

All students love music, so why not integrate figurative speech with popular music? This lesson has students listen to or watch the Taylor Swift performance of her song "Red" while searching for similes and metaphors in figurative language. This lesson is engaging and helps students understand what inferencing and figurative speech is. Students will analyze the inferences of the lyrics. A student sheet and an answer key is provided. This can be a whole class or literacy center activity. This activity is a review activity and is awesome for a poetry unit. This integrates metaphors, similes, and hyperboles.
