What educators are saying

My students really enjoyed this! When they disagreed with the answer key, it led to very good discussion which helped deepen their understanding of figurative language. I would highly recommend this.

Description

Christmas Activity: Identify figurative language in Christmas songs. Digital resource. Students read through the lyrics of different winter tunes and Christmas songs and identify types of figurative language, such as metaphor, simile, personification, hyperbole, or idiom. Lyrics have examples highlighted in different colors, so they can try to figure out the color code. Includes a chart they can fill out as they go through the songs. Each song has a snowflake link to a music video of the song. You can minimize the linked page while the song is playing if you wish to stay on the slide with the lyrics. Five songs...fun activity for the holidays. Color code key is at the end, so they can check their answers, and includes a name-that-tune figurative language quiz at the end, with key. Happy holidays! This is a PowerPoint version of my popular SMARTBOARD activity, created for you by request. Have fun! Please see full preview for songs included. Note that animations do not show in the preview.

If you ever find a broken link, please let me know and I will fix it. Links can change over time. For example, I fixed the link to Marshmallow World in December 2021.
