Description
Figurative language is such an important aspect of ELA. Students need to be able to identify, understand, and analyze figurative language in stories, novels, and poetry. They need to be able to use it in their writing and to explain its purpose and effect.
Whatever your unit, this figurative language truth or dare game is an excellent complementary activity.
POSSIBLE USES:
You can use it as a whole class review of figurative language, as bell ringers, as a small-group activity, or even as a station exercise. Whether you're reading short stories, engaged in a novel or literature circles, studying a play, analyzing poetry, or reviewing for an exam, this game is sure to be a crowd pleaser for students in middle and high school.
CONTENTS:
This game covers a handful of figurative language terms. It contains FOUR LEVELS, 48 TRUTH cards and 48 DARE cards, so that students can self-pace their learning or so that you can match the terms to your instructional units. Each level increases in figurative language term difficulty and spirals in practice from the previous figurative language terms to keep them fresh!

USE DIGITALLY:
This resource IS compatible with digital use! A one-player version of the game is included in Google Slides format. PLUS! The digital version of this game includes a unique student self-assessment slide so they can keep track of the words they know and the ones they need to learn better.
The digital version is more of an activity than a game so that students can play individually if necessary, but it is flexible, so you can add the group game components back in if you'd like.
There are enough cards included in this resource that you can use them OVER AND OVER again without students getting bored. Or, spread the practice exercises out over the course of an entire quarter or semester during a Shakespeare, literature, or poetry unit. You can give students ownership! Let students choose which prompts they'd like to complete, or ask them to help design the digital prompts as they are editable.
IS IT EDITABLE?
The 96 DIGITAL challenges and direction slides are all editable so that you can make them work for your students' circumstances and so that students can even help to tweak the challenges to meet their interest levels. The 96 cards designed for print use are included as a secure PDF. They are not editable.
