Description

No waiting for groups to finish and rotate.

No waiting for groups to listen to directions.

Students work at their own pace.

I have tried several different ways to run a field day, and I have found this to be the easiest way to do it. I have also found that the classroom teachers perfer this design as well.

The intention of this design is to keep things simple for everyone involved. Volunteers will have instruction cards for simple games that require students to either “beat the clock” by finishing a challenge within a minute, or by playing a "head to head" game.

I have provided 50 station cards from which you may choose. At my school we have 2 field days: an upper el. field day and a lower el. field day. We run fourteen stations during each field day.

How it works:

Each student will have an activity card.

The students’ goal is to fill up their card with smiley faces.

When students finish within the minute or win against a competitor, he or she will earn a smiley face on their card for that station number.

If a student doesn’t finish, they earn one EYE and will have to either go to the end of the line or try another station.

If a student doesn’t finish on their second try at a station they earn another EYE:

After a third try students will receive a smile then they are finished with that station.

When a student finishes his or her card, they may then take their card to the concession stand and trade it in for a Popsicle.
