    Fiction and Nonfiction Digital Activities:

    • In this digital resource, students have fun identifying, sorting, and writing examples of fiction and nonfiction. These activities can easily be separated and assigned over several lessons.

    Activities included in these fiction vs nonfiction Google Slides:

    - An information slide to introduce students to fiction and nonfiction.

    - Slides for students to identify and label pictures and sentences as fiction or nonfiction.

    - Students find fiction and nonfiction books and record their title, author, and what makes them fiction or nonfiction.

    - Slides for students to write their own fiction and nonfiction stories based on the pictures given to them.

    - Several slides for students to read and sort sentences and descriptions into fiction and nonfiction.

    Fiction and Nonfiction Retellings Books:

    • These retelling books for fiction and non-fiction texts are a great way for students to recall the books they are reading. You can pick and choose which pages you would like to include within the books. These can be used in small groups, whole group, or even as homework. Students can also use these books to help tell their reading buddies about the stories they have read.

    - Templates to create two retelling books

    • Your students will have a blast identifying the difference between fiction and nonfiction with this set of four hands-on activities. These are great for use during whole group instruction, small groups, and reading centers.

    Fiction vs Non-Fiction Activities Included:

    - Pocket Chart Sorting Activity – Students read the sentences and sort the cards under the heading Fiction or Non-Fiction. Students can also sort on a table underneath the headers.

    - Write/Read the Room – Students read the sentences you have posted around the room and look at the pictures on each card. They decide whether the idea is fiction or non-fiction and select the correct sheet to record their answers.

    - Book Cover/Magazine Picture Sort – Use this sorting page for students to sort pictures they cut out from reading club magazines or other magazines to show fiction and non-fiction.

    - Book Search and Sort- Students search the classroom library or books at home and find three fiction and three nonfiction books and write the titles in the lines provided. Perfect for literacy rotations.

    Fiction vs. Nonfiction Song Activities:

    • Help your students learn the difference between different types of texts with these fun fiction vs. nonfiction songs. Students love learning through music and these snappy jingles will help them to recognize that some books tell stories, while others give information.
