Description
This February themed writing prompts resource includes 15 February themed prompts to get students thinking and writing about their knowledge of and experiences with topics related to the calendar month of February. There are 5 writing prompts for each of the following categories: opinion writing, informative/explanatory writing, and narrative writing.
We have also included mini versions of each writing prompt that can easily be pasted into an interactive notebook or writing journal and completed therein. Additionally, there is a cover page that can be colored by the students and stapled to their completed writing prompts.

- Thomas Edison was born in February. Discuss an invention that you think changed the world.
Informative/Explanatory Writing Prompts
- National Make a Friend Day is February 11th. Share some good strategies for making friends.
- Explain what you know about the Chinese New Year celebration.
- February is National Dental Health Month. Explain how to have healthy teeth.
- February 17th is Random Acts of Kindness Day. Describe some acts of kindness that would be appropriate to celebrate such a day.
- Tell about your favorite winter activity. Explain what you enjoy about it.
Narrative Writing Prompts
- Imagine that you are a child’s lost tooth. What are you feeling? What happens to you?
- Imagine that you are a groundhog being interviewed. What is it like to live in a burrow and hibernate in the winter? Is it true what they say about your shadow?
