What educators are saying

This was perfect for the end of the year! They loved the planning aspect and didn't even grumble about the writing!
I had to do some adapting for my class because they are on the younger side but not much. This was a great activity to build up descripting writing. We are publishing our stories into a book for parents in a month. The kids are very excited.

Description

This project was born out of a desire to do something creative and fun in the final weeks of school without resorting to just showing movies. I was blown away by the creativity of my middle school students and I think yours will impress you just the same!

The materials in this product are intentionally very open-ended and are designed to give students the opportunity to envision and design their very own fictional world in which a fantasy, sci-fi, dystopian, or other type of story might take place.

Students will create a map of their world, write a short backstory explaining what's going on and what's unique about this world, and will create or collect artwork that depicts what life inside this world looks like. There is a slide dedicated to extension activities that early finishers might be interested in doing to really take the immersion to the next level.
