What educators are saying

This was awesome. I copied it following the directions and was able to create the booklets easily. My students used them to keep track of their reading and thinking during our fantasy book club unit.
This was great for students to keep during our book club. They would fill out their book and bring it with them to book club talk. It helped students remember events in the story.

Description

For a class novel, genre study, book clubs (literature circles), or independent reading, this packet will challenge your students to summarize the text and analyze story elements using textual evidence and critical thinking. The standards-based questions are open-ended enough to use with a variety of middle school novels.

Response prompts are provided in two formats: ten whole page worksheets for distribution one day at a time, or a packet to be folded and stapled into a fourth-page student booklet. Either way, two weeks worth of reading response questions are included.

Fantasy Genre tasks include:

  1. Compare settings
  2. Identify the narrator
  3. Describe a character
  4. Analyze imagery
  5. Analyze conflict
  6. Choosing key vocabulary words
  7. Identify a dynamic character
  8. Make text connections
  9. Each day, summarize the text
