Description

The 2023 Update is Here!

Are you ready for some football? How about some football with a 21st Century mathematical twist? Fantasy Football 101 is a highly enjoyable opportunity for your students to collaborate, create, communicate, and think critically while managing an imaginary professional football team. Let me help you to bring the fun, excitement, and camaraderie of this dynamic experience into your classroom.

Fantasy football is an activity my students have participated in, and thoroughly enjoyed each of the past 26 years. It is the only math activity that students have actually run up to me asking for the work! Though this file is robust (225 total pages), I have slimmed fantasy football down from the more traditional on-line formats to make it more classroom-friendly and time-efficient.

Students collaborate in small groups to select a city within a predetermined geographic location for their respective teams, research and create a corresponding logo and team name, and draft a set of real professional football players alongside their classmates. I have bundled a Microsoft Excel draft kit and PowerPoint draft board to help you conduct this draft in an easy-to-use, time-efficient manner.

When the N.F.L. season begins, you or your students organize the weekly statistics generated by "real" football players onto scoring sheets, calculate the results, and then compare results with their respective opponents. You can have your students scour the internet for the statistics, or I offer a weekly product update with the statistics gathered onto a user-friendly pdf 2023 Statistics.

After the games have been completed, each student compiles a weekly "owner's report" that incorporates statistical and graphing standards found within the Common Core.

This is all done over the course of a 15-week regular season, before wrapping up with a 2-3 week playoff to determine the classroom champion.

This dynamic unit has everything you need to run a successful, fun, and engaging 4-month long fantasy football league within your classroom.

Items included:

• management suggestions

• rules and procedures

• time-efficient draft board

• draft cheat-sheet (professional players rank based on $$$ values)

• weekly scoring sheets

• preseason practice scoring sheets with corresponding answer keys

• team logo and helmet development

• regional-based city selections

• season schedules

• 108 separate Owner's Reports with a focus on statistic and graphing standards: bar graphs, double-bar graphs, line graphs, double-line graphs, circle graphs, histograms, scatter plots, box plots, stem-&-leaf plots, and measures of center.

Let the fun begin... Enjoy!
