This huge step-by-step personal narrative writing unit takes you from learning about Thanksgiving, talking about personal Thanksgiving stories, to understanding the purpose of a narrative, to breaking down the structure of 5 personal narrative frameworks (guided), to working on the grammatical features of a personal narrative (guided), independent writing frameworks, then how to revise and edit writing (peer, self and with a teacher), and finally to student and teacher assessments. This resource maps out the explicit steps of personal narrative writing with a Thanksgiving twist. This resource aims to complement your writing program.

Move through the file in the order it is set out. Children will be given opportunities to work in large and small groups as well as one on one with another student and the teachers, as well as independently.
As mentioned above, the fill includes 5 personal narrative framework for you to choose from.
The personal narrative frameworks you can choose from include:
1. small moment, details (when, where, who and what) and conclusion
2. small moment, beginning, middle and end
3. topic sentence, first, next, then and last
4. topic sentence, details (what happened first, second and third?) and conclusion
5. event, details (actions, thoughts and feelings), event, details and conclusion
The rationale behind the choice of 5 frameworks, is that many schools use different frameworks. This will still be a valuable resource should you change schools. Additionally, the students in each class may need different frameworks depending on their writing levels. Lastly, the different frameworks will suit the two grades this resource is aimed at, being first and second grade.
