Description

These non-fiction, fall reading comprehension passages will engage young readers with topics that interest them! Students will increase their vocabulary and improve comprehension through text-based questions. They can be used whole class, for guided reading groups, or for literacy integration during science block.

Is this similar to Close Reading?

Yes, the structure is similar. For each topic, there are focus vocabulary words, a reading passage, vocabulary and comprehension questions, and a personal connection writing opportunity included. Please see the preview.

What themes are included in these fall reading comprehension passages?

The passages are one page and written in simple language. These are the topics and what you will read about:

apples - characteristics of an apple and how apple trees change with the seasons

bats - some facts about bats and information about where they live

spiders - how they are different from insects and some facts about spiders

leaves - learn about how and why leaves change colors

pumpkins - information about how they grow and what they are used for

turkeys - life cycle and facts about wild turkeys

What program does the digital portion use?

This digital portion was created with Google Slides™ and can be used in your Google Classroom™.

Is there a difference between the digital and print versions?

The content is the same in both versions of the fall reading comprehension passages.

How will my students interact with the digital version?

They will review the vocabulary words with picture support and read the passages. Students will highlight the vocabulary words in the passages and cover the correct definition. Then students will type their answers for the comprehension questions. Finally, students will complete the connection slide by typing their answers.

Do you have any other reading comprehension passages?

Yes, in my store you can find more seasonal reading passages as well as passages for pets, life cycles, hibernation, and word families.
