What educators are saying

Loved this resource! I needed a new lesson in a pinch, and this was great. I love the student examples, printable worksheet and other info!!
I have not used one resource from Art with Trista that my students didn't love! I set up stations around the room with different types of textures for students to use. They even found some themselves. I will definitely be using this again next year.

Description

This Faith Ringgold inspired drawing lesson is perfect for middle school art students. This lesson can be taught in February for Black History Month to teach your students about the importance of the Harlem Renaissance and artists during that time or her accomplishments as a female artist during Women's History Month. Students will be able to create an artwork inspired by Faith Ringgold, that incorporates the importance of artists, community and music during the Harlem Renaissance. Students will be able to identify color schemes and use a color scheme in their artwork. Lastly, the lesson plan provides information for students to learn, identify and apply a color scheme to their artwork. The PowerPoint slides include: objectives, standards (Describe social, ecological, economic, religious, and/or political conditions reflected in artwork. VA.68.H.1.1), vocabulary (pattern, texture, color scheme, warm colors, cool colors, analogous colors, primary colors, primary colors and complementary colors), Faith Ringgold art critique & compare/contrast activity, Harlem Renaissance movie clips and discussion questions, reflection questions, printable rubric, student examples and a YouTube art tutorial/demonstration to show your students. In addition, a template for students to use in creating their story quilt. The PDF's can be easily shared with your virtual or home based students. This is a perfect lesson for February to celebrate influential black artists for Black History Month.
