How do I use this resource in a camp: I've given you everything you need to run a two or three week-camp. These are the lessons I use when I run a short camp, such as a spring break, summer camp or even one for a church. No need to collect all of these resources yourself. Let my 38 years of teaching and directing experience make your experience stress-free and engaging to your campers. :)

Tableau Theater:

Campers will delve into the art of tableau theater, learning how to create striking frozen scenes that convey emotion and narrative without words. Through group exercises and improvisation, they will explore composition, expression, and storytelling through stillness. This is a perfect lesson to begin your camp!

Set Design Masterclass:

In this hands-on workshop, campers will discover the magic of set design. They will learn how to brainstorm their own set designs and draw them on a template of a stage curtain. Particular set pieces are required of each setting, so there is plenty of choice-- from fantastical landscapes, enchanted forests, and royal castles while using their imagination to transport potential audiences to far-off lands.

Chanting and Choral Performance:

Campers will learn the power of voice and rhythm as they explore chanting and choral performance techniques. Through group exercises and vocal warm-ups, they will develop their vocal skills and create captivating chants to enhance the atmosphere of their fairy tale world.

Movement and Characterization:

Through movement exercises and character exploration, campers will learn how to embody the personalities and traits of their favorite fairy tale characters. From graceful princesses to mischievous trolls, they will discover the physicality and nuances that bring characters to life on stage.

Storytelling:

Campers will delve into the art of storytelling, learning how to captivate audiences with their words and imagination. Through interactive storytelling games and exercises, they will explore narrative structure, character development, and the importance of engaging the audience's emotions and senses. They'll even have an opportunity to share a personal story!

Creating Sound Effects and Beginning Playwriting:

In this interactive workshop, campers will explore the world of sound effects, learning how to use everyday objects to create magical sounds and immersive audio environments. From creaking doors to thunderstorms, they will discover how sound can enhance the atmosphere and drama of their performances. Working in small groups, students will try their hand at creating a sound scene and performing it for the other campers.

Costume Design Workshop:

Campers will unleash their creativity as they explore the art of costume design. From princess gowns to wizard robes, they will learn how to conceptualize, sketch, and create costumes that bring their favorite fairy tale characters to life. Four design templates are included. This gives a younger student something easier to use or an older student a more challenging experience.

Stage Properties:

Campers will get hands-on experience in studying stage properties and learning how to categorize props through a fun buddy assignment. While viewing a movie clip (The Borrowers), they'll discover the magic of stage properties From magical wands to treasure chests, they will unleash their creativity and attention to detail in bringing the world of fairy tales to life.

Through these eight enriching lessons, this DramaMommaSpeaks resource provides campers with a holistic and immersive journey into the world of fairy tales, fostering creativity, teamwork, and self-expression along the way.

As the grand finale of your fairy tale adventure, campers will bring the beloved classic and humorous "The Brave Little Tailor" to life on stage. With roles for 25+ students, this enchanting one-act play will showcase the talents and creativity of our young actors, transporting audiences to a world of adventure, courage, and magic.

Synopsis: "The Brave Little Tailor" follows the journey of a humble tailor who, through his wit and bravery, embarks on a series of daring adventures. From outsmarting a giant to overcoming a posses of flies, the tailor's courage and cheeky confidence, he knows no bounds as he proves that even the smallest individual can achieve great things and even impress the King and Queen of the kingdom, too!

Included in the script: rehearsal schedule, music and music clips (optional), costume suggestions, stage properties list, directing tips, etc.
