What educators are saying

These exercises were a great review for our fact and opinion unit. The statements used clear identifiers but also allowed students to think critically.
Thank you for this resource! I was able to use it as a pre-test to see how much time we needed to spend on this standard.

Description

Differentiating between fact and opinion might sound simple, but noticing them in context can be a little trickier! These fact and opinion worksheets help students review the difference between facts and opinions, identify them in reading, and support opinions with relevant facts.

This resource includes the following digital versions:

  • Google Slides (link in PDF)
  • Easel Activity (link in My Purchases)
  • Easel Assessment (link in My Purchases)

(Note: some questions are grouped by passage, so you won't want to shuffle them!)

Page one has a space at the top to review the difference between fact and opinion, and then it provides 16 example sentences for students to identify.

Pages two and three each contain a half-page reading passage (filled with both facts and opinions) and six questions asking students to identify fact and opinion statements, support an opinion with a fact, and recognize opinion words.

Page four asks students to locate opinion statements and support them with facts. Finally, students have the chance to write an about an animal and provide supporting facts.

My students ALWAYS need more practice with fact and opinion, especially in preparation for their end-of-year reading test! These fact and opinion activities reinforce key skills with example sentences full of fun animal facts.

Answer keys are included in the PDF version.
