What educators are saying

The group collab aspect was key for my students, thank you for creating a step-by-step process to help them understand the components of FSA Writing better.

Description

This particular presentation is an overview of the rubrics used during the FSA Writing Assessment in Florida, focusing specifically on the rubrics for the Informative Essay prompt option written in 8th grade.

Using the FSA website resources, this is a great group activity to familiarize your 8th grade English students with the FSA informative rubric and includes individual work (reading and highlighting the text) as well as group work (discussing what score you would give the essay within groups and then swapping essays with another group).

Students will score the essay and then swap essays with another group to discuss their highlighting and score with their group members to decide whether they agree or would have scored it differently.

I personally used three essay examples, one that scored a 4/4/2, another that was 3/3/2 and finally 2/2/2. I gave each student a paper copy of the rubric, the essay examples, and a set of highlighters.
