This 3 weeks unit includes:
✔ A vocabulary list with English translation for each term,
✔ Vocabulary exercises,
✔ A dozen of thought-provoking questions to get your students talking,
✔ An activity module called “Petite histoire de la pub “, in which you will find a speaking activity, an audio (“Les origines de la publicité”) with activities, and an article (“Les grandes étapes de l’évolution publicitaire”) with activities,
✔ An activity where students will analyze award-winning francophone ads (this activity will really spark your students’ interests!),
✔ A text called “La publicité manipule nos enfants” with activities (thought-provoking image, speaking activity, reading activity, writing activity),
✔An activity module called “Les Nouvelles formes publicitaires : le marketing d’influence” in which you will find a speaking activity, a text (“Le marketing d’influence: le futur de la publicité”) with activities, an audio (“Les influenceurs”) with activities, and a writing activity,
✔ A project where students will have to use their knowledge learned in the sources mentioned above,
✔ A song by JJ Goldman called “Les choses” with activities,
✔A cultural competency unit where students will compare and contrast French and American ads. In this unit, you will find:
• A case study of the difference between French McDonalds ads and American ones (it will blow your mind!). Great for cultural competency!
• A case study of the difference between French and American slogans (catch phrases) in ads (and commercials).
• 4 TV commercials for Nutella (2 French ones and 2 American ones) with which you can pinpoint and talk (for hours!) about cultural differences in both countries.
• 10 award-winning TV commercials (TikTok, Renault, McDo...) for you and your students to enjoy with activity suggestions,
• A case study of the difference between French and American slogans (catch phrases) in ads (and commercials).
• An activity where students have to create two different slogans for the same product, while respecting cultural differences,
✔ A ready-to-go-project for students (with grading rubric) that will synthesize the cultural information studies above.
✔ Three writing prompts that can be used for compositions and essays,
✔ Answer keys to all the activities mentioned above.
