What educators are saying

We have been using these stripes to practice our phonemes and phonics in whole and small groups. I appreciate that each strip has a picture, so students can learn new French vocabulary at the same time. Thank you!
These are great for in class. We use them in centers and with Mme. I have also used them in our folders for review at home as they are decodable!

Description

Do your French primary students struggle with efficiently blending letter sounds together to read new words? Are you looking for more ways to incorporate the Science of Reading in your French primary classroom?

Try these French blending strips!

Each sound in each word is pre-segmented for students. There are words with two and three sounds included in this set. Sounds are joined together with a continuous line to represent blending.

To prep, just print, cut apart, and laminate if you like. You can fold back the white square so that students don’t see the picture (you may want to clip it with a paperclip). Students will blend the sounds together to read the word, and check the picture to self correct. Any silent letters are written in gray so students know not to say their sounds.

Enseignons ensemble members, this resource was in the July 2023 resource pack.

This resource includes:

  • 165 blend, read & check strips for French words (in colour)
  • 50 of the strips are for words containing two different sounds to blend
  • 115 of the strips are for words containing three different sounds to blend
  • Each sound is highlighted in a different colour and has a dot beneath it
  • Each strip has a continuous line to encourage students to blend sounds together
  • Students can check their reading via the picture at the end of the strip
  • There are words to read that include digrammes/trigrammes as well as words that only contain sounds represented by just one letter

Check out the preview above for a closer look at some of the included blending strips.

Each strip also includes a picture clue of an anchor word for each of the target sounds.

Simple prep - just print, cut into strips, and fold back the pictures!
