How to use this FREE Editable Syllabus Template for High School:

The high school syllabus can be used to outline your course at the beginning of a new semester.  While many teachers have success with course outlines that include more interactive and animated features, others choose to stick with a more formal and traditional template.  If you are preparing your students for post-secondary education, this high school syllabus is designed with you in mind!

↠ This high school syllabus template is 100% editable, meaning you can switch any category headings to accommodate your unique needs.  The default categories include:

  • Course Overview: Grade Level, Instructor, and Course Description
  • Course Units
  • Grade Breakdown
  • Classroom Policies: Attendance, Course Work, Academic Integrity, Late Work, and Extra Credit
  • Signature of Student and Teacher

↠ If you are using Microsoft PowerPoint®: Open the file provided within this resource and follow the instructions for each section.  This resource also includes instructions for exporting this file to PDF format.

↠ If you are using Google Docs®: Open the file provided within this resource to make a copy of the editable syllabus template to your Google Drive®.  Follow along with the instructions for each section.  This resource also includes instructions for downloading this file to PDF format.

↠ Use the High School Syllabus Example to guide you through creating a simple and straightforward syllabus for your course.

↠ An Extra Credit Application Form has been included with this resource.  This form can be used to eliminate last-minute extra credit assignments from students who are attempting to recover from failing grades or reach a particular grade-point average.  This form will clarify to students that they must apply for extra credit and will have them reflect on their reasons for requiring additional assignment opportunities.

↠ This application form is helpful for your own organization as it succeeds in preventing last-minute grading.  It can also be useful to recognize any patterns with your students and keep track of how many extra credit opportunities they have been granted. If you choose to use this form, it can be introduced when you go over the syllabus so that you set your expectations for this procedure early on in the semester.

This resource is also included in Mondays Made Easy's Back to School Bundle for Procedures and Routines. This bundle includes classroom management tools and community-building activities to establish daily routines, classroom expectations, and a growth mindset for the new school year.  To preview this resource, click here.
