    What is the FLOSS Rule?

    The "FLOSS Rule" is a spelling rule for one-syllable words with short vowels that end in the bonus letters -ff, -ll, -ss, and -zz. When a one-syllable word with a short vowel ends in the letters f, l, s, and z, the final consonant should be doubled (e.g., staff, cuff, hill, spill, mess, hiss, jazz, fuzz).

    Brain-based phonics is based on the Orton-Gillingham structured, systematic, and multisensory approach to phonics instruction and is aligned to the science of reading!
